Wedding photography is essentially a fascinating mix of portraiture and event photography carried out in an impressive variety of settings and groups. It is classified as a specialty of professional photography because it requires mastery of exposure, storytelling, lighting, composition and its many different elements, the printer’s art, and many more. There are several styles of contemporary or modern-day wedding photography.
Photojournalistic wedding photography, also known as wedding photojournalism, documentary/reportage wedding photography, or candid wedding photography is characterized by a distinctively candid, natural approach. This is the most popular style of wedding photography in Kitchener and Waterloo, Ontario and beyond. The photojournalistic style derives from the genre of photography called photojournalism (which involves the use of images to tell a news story) and is quite the opposite of the traditional/old-school wedding photography style.
Wedding photojournalism is an authentic, undirected and unposed visual narrative of your big day, so a wedding photojournalist creatively documents the special moments of your wedding day as they unfold, and intervenes only when it comes to portraits with your family and close friends (group photos). This style requires healthy doses of spontaneous creativity, a sense of anticipation, and quick thinking to capture emotion-laden, genuine and impactful images.
Fashion-inspired wedding photography combines candid images of your big day and posed ones that are inspired by editorial fashion photography (magazine covers are a great example of editorials). This style delivers magazine-quality, polished images, involves many hours of post-processing, and it’s preferred by couples who want their wedding photos to look more refined and actually enjoy posing.
Fine art wedding photography is a mixture of fine art photography and wedding photojournalism and delivers spectacular images worthy of fine arts. A suite of props ( such as prisms, crystals, infrared cameras, smoke, etc) is used to create the desired effects, but it takes a lot of time to capture a great image and every second of the big day is precious, which is why this style is not popular.
